Dear Denver Comic Con attendees:

Another Denver Comic Con is now in the books! So many wonderful things happened this year – amazing cosplay, tons of cool vendors, celebrities, comics guests and William Shatner reading a book to kids in the CBC Corral. It will be tough to top that one (ever). While good times were had by many at the 2013 show, we are also well aware that a great number of people experienced long wait times and frustrating encounters with crowd control. We would like to apologize for those situations and want you to know we hear those things as well as the overwhelming positive responses. If you’re one of those people who had some negative experience, we want to encourage you to give us another chance next year.

Putting together an event the size of Denver Comic Con is a Herculean undertaking. We make no excuses here, and some of the plans that seemed like good ideas on paper simply did not turn out well last weekend. We made big changes throughout the weekend to expedite registration lines and improve traffic flow, among other things. We’re sure many of you noticed the difference between Friday and Sunday.

We cannot understate this: we take your feedback seriously and will make necessary changes for our 2014 show. We absolutely will learn from our mistakes this year and make the next show much more enjoyable.

We know that calling these problems “growing pains” is small comfort to those who had negative experiences, but it’s a solid metaphor for our situation. We will continue to grow, to take criticism and turn it into real change in order to bring you the best con experience we can. We can’t promise we won’t fail in areas at times, but we constantly hold dear Thomas Wayne’s words: “and why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.”

Sincerely,

Board of Directors
Comic Book Classroom

2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Deryl’s professional life as an artist. After several years of working on a local strip, Skelton drew the Dallas comic strip for the LA Times Syndicate.

At Marvel, he worked on virtually every character from the Avengers to the X-Men. Deryl moved to DC when offered the job of bringing to comic book life the crew of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: The Next Generation. He happily served there, with occasional forrays into other strips like Wonder Woman, until DC’s contract with Star Trek’s parent company ended.

Along with occasional forays into the Independent comic scene, (like Tales of the Boneyard & Tales From Fremont Street) and children’s books, (The Adventures of Lexi and Boomer). Deryl currently does commission work that includes posters for Vegas movie premieres (Star Trek, Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Thor & Captain America) editorial cartoons and portraiture.
