Denver, CO- July 18, 2012- Denver Comic Con is excited to announce a triumphant return to the Mile High City on May 31-June 2, 2013 at the Colorado Convention Center with featured guest Stan Lee.
Featuring a league of comic book heroes, artists, exhibitors and the costumed fan-base that has made Comic Cons famous around the country, Denver Comic Con will embark on their 2nd year after a record opening (with 27,700 in total attendance) at their inaugural event just last month. Believed to be the second largest opening in Comic Con history, the entire event benefits children’s literacy through Comic Book Classroom, an after-school program developed to teach children literacy and art through comics.
“Not only was it a first for the Denver Convention Center, it was an amazing turnout and a great indicator of what is yet to come.” – Greg Guler (Lead Designer for Disney’s hit cartoon, Phineas and Ferb)
Comic Book Classroom, now in its second year, has successfully graduated over 250 students in the Colorado area, totaling 15 different classrooms on a meager budget. Now, with substantial community support and record attendance at Denver Comic Con, the program aims to reach underprivileged students throughout Colorado and beyond. Together with a partnership with the Stan Lee Foundation, organizers are now aiming to reach students in communities around the country, with a focus on economically challenged neighborhoods, by bringing words to life with comics and graphic novels.
As Denver’s first large scale Comic Con, the three-day event featured an impressive roster of comic talent from the prestigious to lesser-known indie talent as well as 155 exhibitors, ranging from comic book stores to sci-fi collectables and everything pop-culture in between. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the 2012 Denver Comic Con was the incredible fan-level participation with costumes galore, as well as an array of top-shelf Cosplay appearances.
Planning is already underway for the 2013 Denver Comic Con with top-dog comic legend Stan Lee already confirmed, along with a slew of celebrities and comic heroes yet to be announced. Set to take place at the Colorado Convention Center from May 31- June 2, 2013, Denver Comic Con will be releasing early bird tickets and more information in coming weeks at www.denvercomiccon.com and www.facebook.com/denvercomiccon.
